We are looking for a new Director of People and Culture to make the RSPCA the very best place to work.

The new RSPCA Chief Executive is keen to put their people at the heart of everything we do, with a clear and ambitious vision for the future of the RSPCA. Working closely with the CEO, Council and wider Leadership Team, the Director of People and Culture will be responsible for developing and delivering the people strategy, creating a strategic, modern People and Culture directorate. It is an inspiring and rewarding challenge for an experienced HR professional who genuinely shares our sense of purpose.

The scale and complexity of the RSPCA is part of what makes this role such a compelling proposition. They have around 1,700 employees and apprentices, plus several thousand volunteers and you will be instrumental in positioning the Society as an employer of choice to which staff and volunteers are proud to belong. Leading a team of c.50, you will be passionate about creating a learning culture and an inspiring work environment, informed by 21st century thinking.

It requires a highly strategic approach along with extensive pragmatism, commercialism, collaboration and facilitation. Your leadership will be vital to the forward momentum of the organisation. You will be tasked with facilitating a shared view of strategic direction, identifying essential priorities, establishing key HR systems, organisational development mechanisms, and measuring performance.

You will have the freedom to lead on organisational effectiveness, good governance, to drive high performance and promote a commitment to continuous improvement. With the expertise to shape how our People & Culture offering should grow and develop, you will be able to articulate strategic goals, align functions, win hearts and minds, and embed best practice for the long term.

Influential across the entire organisation, you will lead, direct and manage HR, Learning & Development, Volunteering & Apprenticeships, and Health & Safety. You need to be credible at a strategic level, taking the Society’s objectives and ensuring that they translate into actionable goals for your functions. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will contribute to direction and decision-making, proactively working towards the achievement of the shared organisational vision, culture, values and goals. Your commitment to talent development, good governance, and continuous improvement will help us to cultivate a progressive, forward-thinking approach to our organisational development. With an eye on the long-term, you will identify requirements, make recommendations and drive change where appropriate. You will also provide strategic advice and support to the ELT and Council on all aspects of employment, volunteering and Health & Safety.
