Job description

Established in 2000, the KPMG Foundation identifies and supports innovative and ambitious organisations striving to improve the lives of children and young people in disadvantaged communities. They believe that no child should be left behind. Their two main areas of focus are very young children (babies and under 5s) living in some of the most vulnerable families and communities; and care experienced children and young people, as well as those on the edge of care. The majority of their funds are donated by partners of KPMG LLP, and in the last full year they distributed more than £1m to some amazing organisations that are giving hope to children and young people in the most challenging circumstances imaginable.

As they prepare to mark their 25th anniversary later this year, the children and young people’s sector is facing significant challenges. Needs are increasingly complex and widespread, and resources are scarce. The new Chief Executive will take them into their second quarter century with optimism, and a determination to maintain an exceptional record of impact. More, their want to help create the system change that is so badly needed to improve children’s lives and outcomes. It’s an exceptional opportunity to work with a highly experienced board, expert and professional team, and inspiring charity partners.

Candidates are likely to have experience of leading a small, effective organisation which consistently punches above its weight, and you must have a good grasp of how corporate philanthropy works. We are open-minded about your background to date – while you should understand the principles of grant-making, you need not be an expert – and we will be particularly interested in hearing how you might amplify influence and extend the Foundation's reach even more widely in the coming years. This could include designing and commissioning research that builds capacity in the sector, or working at a national level to set ambitious frameworks for change.

Your balanced executive skillset will enable you to move confidently from public speaking to budget evaluations, or from preparing board papers to drafting compelling internal communications. A deep personal commitment to KPMG Foundation's mission, and the ability to play a leading role in a high-performing blue-chip organisation, are both essential.
