Job description
For over 55 years, the Runnymede Trust has worked tirelessly to progress racial justice in the UK. Proudly independent, we speak truth to power on race and racism without fear or favour.
We are not swayed by political agenda, profit or popular opinion. From broadening the curriculum to exposing the Windrush scandal, our work is rooted in challenging structural racism and its impact on people of colour. Our authoritative research-based interventions equip decision makers, practitioners and the general public with the knowledge and tools to deliver genuine progress towards racial justice in Britain. The past few years has seen us launch impactful reports on race and poverty, the English Literature curriculum, new police powers and police in schools, and the climate crisis.
As a result of succession planning and our recent growth, we now invite applications from those who would like to serve as Trustees on our governing Board. Trustees have collective responsibility for Runnymede's governance, and for all decisions we make. They set our strategic direction, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the board and executive leaders.
In this round of recruitment, we seek specifically to appoint two trustees with additional expertise inCharity Law and Fundraising, as well as a Trustee with the financial skills to act as our Treasurer. All trustees should additionally bring a leadership mindset that embraces humility, a commitment to learning and being challenged and the ability to listen and respect. A good understanding of governance and a commitment to the Nolan Principles would be an advantage, and it is essential that you share our commitment to equipping decision makers, practitioners and citizens with the knowledge and tools they need to deliver genuine progress towards racial justice in Britain.
