Many of us want to contribute to mitigating the devastating potential effects of climate change, but it’s often hard to see what will have the greatest impact. This unique non-executive role enables you to use your fundraising skills and professional networks to make a tangible, long-term positive difference to environmental resilience.
The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is a not-for-profit, independent research centre with over 50 years’ experience of monitoring and modelling environmental change and generating evidence-driven solutions to complex environmental challenges.
Operating from four UK locations, CEH employs 360 scientists and has a £40m annual budget; our intention is to become a charitable company by the end of 2019.
One of our most important objectives is to position CEH as a world-leading contributor to environmental science and innovation, and as the ethical and enlightened choice for philanthropic funding in a competitive world. CEH want to generate new opportunities to deliver leading-edge evidence and environmental informatics which will underpin a safer, more resilient, and sustainable environment, and they have a particular interested in extending the impact of their international work.
This non-executive Trustee Director role will advise and support the executive team to identify philanthropic programmes and public fundraising opportunities which support their research and innovation objectives and develop beneficial long-term funding relationships.
Candidates will bring a clear vision of how best CEH can engage with philanthropic foundations: the strongest applicants will have substantial experience of UK and overseas foundations and a strong, current network in relevant sectors. You’ll exemplify strategic leadership in the creation of new opportunities and partnerships, with outstanding influencing skills. Board and/or senior executive experience in the private or third sectors is a must, with high levels of strategic financial analysis and understanding. Collaborative, values-led and able to apply a range of knowledge and experience to make the most of emerging scenarios, you’ll have a clear focus on outcomes. Diversity of perspectives, background and insight are invaluable in our work, and we would particularly like to hear from candidates whose professional and personal profiles will bring us new understanding and capacity.
Humans depend on nature – and we are changing nature. If you would like to contribute to the leadership of our urgent and significant work in understanding, mitigating and adapting to a changing environmental future, visit www.ceh-trustees.co.uk to find out more.
