Director of People & Organisational Development - CARE International UK

Posted 22 April 2024

Job description

CARE International is a leading humanitarian organisation fighting global poverty. Founded in 1945, we seek a world of hope, inclusion, and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live in dignity and security. Today, we operate in over 100 countries around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. We place special focus on women and girls, because women’s rights are human rights, and we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities. CARE is non-religious and non-political, allowing us to deliver humanitarian and development assistance to anyone in need regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age, religion, political view or sexual orientation.

With a refreshed organisational strategy and a new Chief Executive, it’s a great time to join CARE as we embark on an exciting period of growth and change. Overseeing a transformation of our people and OD strategies, this role will be absolutely at the heart of ensuring we create a future-facing environment for our staff, so they are able to deliver on our mission in an empowering and effective way. With responsibility for HR, facilities, travel and security, internal communications as well as shared oversight for information management and technology, you’ll report to the Chief Executive and will be a critical member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Equity, diversity, and inclusion must underpin our culture, and you’ll be a visible leader of positive, enabling, anti-racist and inclusive change across the organisation.

Candidates will have a broad portfolio of relevant experience and are likely to have held senior roles within INGOs or the wider charity sector. Outcome-focused and exceptionally well-organised, you’ll have an impressive track record of designing and implementing lasting positive change. You’ll work with the grain of our workforce at every level, understanding their strong intrinsic motivation to be part of our mission and making them proud to be part of the international CARE federation. Able to prioritise and work in an agile way, you’ll relish the chance to play your part in growing CARE’s reputation as a leader in humanitarian and crisis work.
