Job description

Chance UK is an award-winning early intervention children’s charity founded in 1995. Our vision is for every child in the UK to feel happy about themselves, realise their potential, and be confident in their ability to build a brighter future. The charity provides solutions focused mentoring and family support for children aged 5-14 with behavioural and emotional difficulties alongside group workshops designed to build social and emotional skills and resilience. The children we work with have often faced trauma and challenge in their lives, but we know that with the right support they can flourish.

The Chance UK team are passionate about creating child-centred, solution-focused interventions which make a difference. The past few years have been a period of significant growth and development for the organisation. We appointed a new CEO in 2023 and are now developing our new strategic plan for the coming 5 years focusing on excellence, growth, and diversity.

The role of a Chair and Trustees (“Board of Trustees) are fundamental to any charity’s good governance and overall success. The Board of Trustees hold ultimate responsibility for ensuring Chance UK fulfils its organisational and charitable purpose through effective leadership which demonstrates honesty, openness, and integrity. The Board of Trustees focuses on corporate governance, strategy, decision making, risk management and control and ensures that our financial controls and policies are fit for purpose.

We’re ambitious for the future and are looking for a dynamic and committed Chair and two Trustees who share our values and the time commitment we require– particularly those with expertise in Safeguarding and child protection services, Finance, Governance, Organisational Growth and/or have lived experience of the issues we work on including exclusion from school, being a parent of a child who has been excluded or who has additional social, emotional, or behavioural needs.

We welcome applications from candidates with lived experience of the issues faced by the children and families we support. We are keen to hear from candidates who have experience of leadership roles as an executive, non-executive or trustee. We warmly invite interest from candidates with a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicity as we believe that a diverse board leads to better results.

To apply, you will be asked to upload your CV and a short supporting statement (NB: these must be combined into one document for upload) to demonstrate your match to the role.
