UnLtd is the leading supporter of social entrepreneurs in the UK. Founded in 2002, they’ve supported 15,000 social entrepreneurs with over £80m in grants and investments, and the equivalent value in wraparound support: advice, learning, mentoring, connections. In communities up and down the nation, they’ve met, learnt from and supported inspiring people who bring their drive, lived expertise, talent and ideas to address challenging issues such as the disability employment gap, loneliness or racial injustice. UnLtd believe they have a vital part to play in the sector’s continuing expansion.

Social enterprises – and the remarkable, visionary people who launch and grow them – will be a major driver of the UK’s future prosperity, equity and wellbeing. A recent report from Lord Adebowale’s Commission on Social Investment identified that if the sector was supported to double in size it would create 180,000 jobs (20% rooted in our most deprived communities), a boost of £3bn to the UK economy, and £1.2bn in tax revenue.

Equity, diversity and inclusion has been at the heart of their learning and progression over the last few years, and it needs to be at the heart of the social enterprise and investment sectors. There remains a need to break down the barriers that entrepreneurs who are Black, Asian, minority ethnic and/or disabled face – whether that’s access to capital or access to markets. Though we’re certainly looking for specialist expertise, one of the most exciting aspects of this opportunity is attracting leaders with a hugely diverse range of lived and learned expertise, perspectives, insights and experience.

UnLtd are inviting a number of new Trustees to join them over the next 6 months, and we’re interested to hear from candidates who bring one or more of their current focus areas. These include those with a nuanced and practical understanding of what works in impact investment; those with a talent and track record for seeking out new partners and building relationships, particularly in a funding context; and social entrepreneurs who can bring their own lived and learned expertise to help UnLtd continually advance their strategy, impact and accountability.

If you believe in the power of social enterprise, and importance of putting equity and impact at the core of our economy and society, we’d love to hear from you; find out more https://unltd-trustees.co.uk/
