Abortion Support Network (ASN) is a small, busy and growing charity which supports women and pregnant people across Europe whose own countries fail to provide safe, legal and accessible abortion care. They believe that “I can’t afford an abortion” should not be the only reason someone becomes a parent. ASN provides information on clinics, travel and accommodation, and help with costs for those who do not have the financial resources to access a safe abortion abroad. At present, they support residents of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar, Poland, Ukraine and other EU countries on a case-by-case basis.

ASN don’t ask why. The only thing that matters is whether someone needs help.

They're proud of their work and achievements to date, but it’s increasingly clear that access to basic reproductive healthcare is coming under greater and greater pressure across Europe. As a result, ASN are committed to developing their capacity and resources to meet the needs of more of those who are unable to find safe abortion care in their home country. That’s where this role comes in.

The new Chief Executive will lead the process of reviewing and developing ASN's systems and operational models, so that they can scale up their work with confidence and ambition. The contribution of amazing volunteers underpins everything ASN do, and they want the volunteers to have the right structures in place to allow them to continue their vital work; but ASN also recognise that the coming decade may hold challenges that will ask new questions of them, and require the resilience to respond in new ways. You’ll develop a robust, collaborative and adaptable culture, and help ASN design and deliver the organisational growth that will put them in the strongest shape for the future.

It’s a great chance to lead a healthy, sound organisation through positive change and growth, and you’ll be able to demonstrate that you’ve got first-hand experience of planning and delivering this process. Candidates need to bring strategic planning, finance, governance, fundraising, volunteer management and partnership building, but we warmly encourage interest from those for whom this will be their first chief executive role. Unequivocally pro-choice, with an unshakeable commitment to social justice, candidates will be flexible and able to manage effectively in a lean, emotionally challenging (and sometimes time-critical) context. Your inspiring leadership style will be marked by generosity and an instinct for listening, and you’ll relish the opportunity to provide this invaluable service to all those who are denied the abortion support they need.

Abortion Support Network especially encourages applications from racially minoritised people, LGBTQ+ people (they are a trans-inclusive organisation), people with disabilities, and people who have experienced other exclusion or marginalisation.
