Salary £100,000 - £120,000
LocationRoyal Leamington Spa

Job description

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is an independent healthcare charity and the leading specialists of abortion advice and treatment in the UK. For more than 55 years, they have advocated and cared for women and couples who decide to end a pregnancy. BPAS offer abortion advice and treatment, pregnancy testing, counselling, Sexually Transmitted Infection screening, contraception, and vasectomy through their network of reproductive healthcare centres. Each year, over 100,000 women receive care in one of their 55 reproductive healthcare clinics nationwide.

Rapid growth over the past three years means that BPAS now performs nearly half of the UK’s abortions. They have introduced ground-breaking changes in service delivery, including an award-winning telemedical abortion service, and have risen to the challenge of the increase in women’s needs during the pandemic and the cost of living crisis that followed. Having restored the organisation to financial sustainability through an ambitious and successful post-Covid recovery plan in 2022/2023, they now have firm foundations on which to build the next phase of their development, and ensure that they are fit for the future.

You’ll play a vital part in realising the full potential of their recently launched Strategy and Improvement Plan, which is designed to deliver continuous quality improvement and innovation in service provision, as well as the development of strategic partnerships across the UK so BPAS can guarantee women’s access to the abortion care and the additional support services they need. As part of the Executive Leadership Team, you’ll demonstrate the highest level of professional expertise and leadership in financial strategy, operational delivery and management information, as well as overseeing IT, estates and procurement.

Candidates will hold a finance and/or accountancy qualification, and have a broad professional repertoire. You’ll need extensive experience and leadership of a major finance function, ideally in the NHS or a comparable sector; a sophisticated grasp of business planning and budgeting; and a track record of achieving your objectives, while also developing and managing high-performing teams. Strong candidates will additionally bring experience of leading change programmes. Excellent commercial, communication and influencing skills are vital, and candidates must share an unshakeable commitment to a woman’s right to choose abortion.
