Job description
There are tens of thousands of voluntary-sector organisations in the UK, and every day, millions of people across the country give their time, energy and money to support their work. NCVO firmly believes that communities are strengthened by charities, so do everything they can to help them thrive.
NCVO champions and strengthens volunteering and civil society, and their 17,000 members come in all sizes – from small, grassroots community groups and social enterprises, to charities operating on a national and even global scale. For over 100 years, they have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with communities, championing and celebrating voluntary action. NCVO listens to its members and provide helpful and relevant knowledge, tools, and resources, so they can focus on delivering what they’re there for. Together with partners and members, NCVO advocate for greater value and equity for the voluntary sector so that charities can grow their impact.
They're currently working on a new strategy (to be implemented from mid-2025), designed to keep NCVO at the forefront of best practice and equip them to serve the charity sector better. They're making significant investments in technology, systems and processes, while also innovating around delivery, business model and structure. So this is a hugely exciting time to join NCVO as their new Finance and Commercial Director, and help to shape their development and transformation journey. You’ll play a crucial role in making the future happen by ensuring sustained financial resilience, assuring the Board of all relevant compliance, and leading the strong, outcome-focused central services that we’ll need to deliver their new 2025 strategy. They'll also look to you to oversee the expansion of commercial income-streams, including optimising returns from their property assets.
Candidates will bring impressive experience of leading a strategic finance function, along with extensive expertise in governance, compliance, audit and risk. Moreover, we’re looking for someone who understands the importance of personal leadership, influence, communication and engagement for change. Strong business acumen, political awareness and a clear understanding of what good governance looks like are all essential. Able to summarise complex issues effectively, and inspire confidence even when change is uncomfortable, you’ll share NCVO's passionate commitment to the voluntary sector and will be hugely excited by this chance to realise even more of its potential.
