The Trussell Trust is an amazing place to work – but we wish it didn’t have to exist, because we don’t believe that a charity like ours should be needed at all.

Unfortunately, we have seen demand double over the past three years, as a result of both the pandemic and subsequent economic circumstances. Despite our best efforts, foodbank use is soaring – and the range of need is broadening beyond food to include a variety of other essential goods. However, the increased visibility and awareness of the issue mean that public goodwill, support and our profile are all considerably higher than before 2020. Achieving our vision of a country in which foodbanks are no longer needed will depend on how effectively we use these resources to increase the pressure on policymakers, so that the case for change becomes irresistible.

Our ICT and systems infrastructure are therefore absolutely critical to our success: we need to support the central Trust team and our network of foodbanks so that they can respond as effectively as possible and turn our insight into action for change. This role will see you play a vital part in ensuring that we’re running the most efficient, effective business information systems possible. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you’ll be accountable for the full portfolio of business IT and IS services across the organisation and in support of the national food bank network. Overseeing infrastructure and security, business systems and our CRM platform (Salesforce), you’ll help us build the information architecture we need in a rapidly changing external context. You’ll hold a ‘helicopter view’ across all our systems, championing development and integration, and ensuring that lead users have a clear understanding of how they need to work together on a strategic level.

We’re looking for a systems expert with a deep understanding of how charities work, who can design and communicate the critical path to achieve the deliberate, planned, considered and future-proofed IT infrastructure we need. Able to work well across the business and with a wide range of colleagues, you’ll understand how to support our teams of highly motivated, passionate people, whose vocation has found a home at the Trussell Trust. You’ll bring outstanding expertise in planning and delivering innovative technology strategies, and ensure everything we do is underpinned by excellent, responsive and user-led ICT systems. You must have a track record of engaging fully with business processes and the people who are working with them, as an essential preparatory stage to change or innovation. With a rare ability to do both the big picture and the detail, you’ll share our deep commitment to social justice and change, and will understand what it is we’re trying to achieve.

We actively encourage applications from under-represented groups such as returning parents or carers who are re-entering work after a career break, people who are LGBTQIA+, from racially minoritized communities such as  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, who have a faith other than Christianity or none, with a disability, impairment, learning difference or long-term condition, with caring responsibilities, from different nations and regions and those with a lived experience of poverty as well as any other under-represented group in our workforce. We are committed to ensuring the safety and protection of our employees from all forms of harm.
